JOB TITLE: Business Planning Specialist
POSITION STATUS: Regular, Full-Time
EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt
PAY SCALE RANGE: 12, 13, 14
REPORTS TO: CPD Program Director
The Business Planning Specialist will work with local, state, and federal
partners to provide technical assistance and training in all aspects of business
planning, development and management to residents of the Bering Straits region.
The Business Planning Specialist is also responsible for a tuition assistance
program for business related classes as well as maintaining library and client
workstation.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical assistance in business planning development and management
to individuals, tribal councils, city councils, and other organizations
to develop community-based enterprise.
- Organize and assist in conducting training seminars on business development
concepts and practices, including cash flow, record keeping and accounting,
capital budgeting, insurance needs, business taxes, marketing, product
development, and business principles.
- Research and identify business opportunities as they develop for the benefit
of the clients we serve.
- Assist IRA/traditional councils, village corporations and individual entrepreneurs
in developing feasibility analysis, business plans and accessing loans
and business grants for capital and startup funding.
- Manage the tuition assistance program.
- Coordinate business development efforts with state, federal and private
agencies.
- Assist CPD Director in preparing program reports for review by the President
and the Kawerak Board of Directors and program funding sources.
- Occasionally attend evening meetings or meetings out of town which require
travel during evenings, weekends and holidays to perform duties associated
with the position.
- Other duties as assigned by the CPD Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors Degree in Economics, Business Administration, Marketing, Rural
Development or related field from an accredited institution of learning;
or an Associate Degree in a relevant field plus two years experience
in business development and/or management, or community development. Work
experience in business administration, business finance, community and economic
development, or related field may substitute for the degree requirement on
a year for year basis.
- Must have experience in business or community planning, financial management,
and conducting or organizing training programs.
- Must possess strong research, writing and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills required.
- Must possess proficient computer knowledge and skills in Microsoft Word,
Excel and Access. Microsoft Publishing proficiency preferred.
- Must be dependable, self-motivated, and able to work with minimum supervision.
- Must be able to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds.
- Must be able to travel extensively in rural Alaska.
