JOB TITLE: CAC Educator
POSITION STATUS: Regular, Full Time
EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt
PAY SCALE GRADE: 9-10-11
REPORTS TO: CAC Director
The Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is a child-friendly and culturally appropriate
center for the investigation of child sexual abuse. The CAC Educator must have
strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as public speaking
skills. The CAC Educator must be willing to work with children and people of
all ages that have experienced physical or sexual abuse.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under the supervision of the CAC Director, collaborate with other agencies
currently operating Child Advocacy Centers to research current trends in
CAC operations.
- Provide support and follow up for clients and families who come through
the CAC.
- Educate village professionals and residents and in-house staff on the
role of the CAC, and the role of adults to be Stewards of Children. This
includes professional trainings, presentations to parents, children, and
community members.
- Maintain contact with Bering Straits Region community professionals on
a regular basis to ensure their Child Abuse Awareness needs are met.
- Maintain and track participant numbers on all educational programs.
- Develop and implement a public awareness campaign to educate about the
CAC, services and prevention of child physical/sexual abuse.
- Keep abreast of legislative changes, professional trends, and community
concerns
- Ensure enough Child Abuse pamphlets are on-hand for Bering Straits Region
communities.
- Create Awareness Ads and maintain contact with local Radio Stations on
a regular basis to run those ads.
- Coordinate April’s Child Abuse Awareness campaign including pamphlets/flyers
for Nome and surrounding communities.
- Assist to prepare newsletter twice a year.
- Create educational materials such as pamphlets and posters.
- Act as agency’s point person for all media and community relations.
- Offer recommendations to improve the CAC web page to include resource
information, and other helpful information for victims of child physical/sexual
abuse. Create a FAQ & answers section.
- Create educational materials and distribute to the public.
- Develop an after school activity with the Nome Community Schools program.
After each session, develop a handbook for volunteer use so the program activities
can be replicated in the Bering Strait region villages.
- Travel throughout the region to provide prevention/education presentations,
and to develop child abuse resource centers.
- Educate families seen at the CAC on the issue of child sexual abuse.
- Other duties as assigned by the CAC Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED required. One year of work experience in a
human services agency required
- Ability to work with children and people of all ages that have experienced
physical or sexual abuse.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Internet, Microsoft Office software, Excel, Word and computer
data systems.
- Must be a self-starter and possess strong organizational skills.
- May be required to occasionally assist in case referrals after 5:00pm
or on weekends.
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of people from various backgrounds
and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Must have no prior convictions of assault or domestic violence and must
clear CPS background check.
- Must be willing to travel in a small commuter aircraft to conduct services
within the Bering Strait region.
