
NOTICE OF JOB VACANCY POSITION DESCRIPTION
DIVISION: CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES

JOB TITLE: Caregiver
POSITION STATUS: Shift (Evening and Weekend), On-Call
EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt
PAY SCALE GRADE: 5-6-7
REPORTS TO: Jacob’s House Program Director
BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Director of Jacob’s House and other staff with provision
of services for resident children, ensuring goals and objectives of
the program are achieved.
- Provide a home-like atmosphere for resident children by creating a positive,
safe, nurturing environment.
- Provide overall resident services for Jacob’s House, serving as a
guardian and meeting needs of up to five children ages 0-18 who are
involved in the State Department of Health and Human Services programs or
tribal child welfare programs in accordance with licensing, accreditation,
and program requirements.
- Provide supervision and positive adult role modeling for resident children.
- During Awake-Night Shift, conduct bed checks per operation manual.
- Provide assistance, within specific program guidelines, in crisis situations
for children admitted to the program.
- Assist Live-In Parent with the provision of case management services for
resident children. Maintain documentation of services for resident children
as outlined in the operation manual.
- Prepare meals and snacks during shift period. Responsible for laundry,
general cleaning, and light maintenance.
- Provide culturally relevant and age-appropriate healthy activities for
resident children during shift period, other than during awake-night
duties.
- Assist resident children with meeting their educational, social, emotional,
physical, medical, dental, and mental health needs; provide the encouragement,
assistance, direction, and support that would normally be received from
a parent. May provide referrals for resident children and transport to their
appointments.
- Ensure that adequate food and clothing are provided to resident children
by maintaining an inventory of stock and notifying Director when orders
are necessary.
- Monitor and/or administer medication for resident children as prescribed
by medical providers.
- Monitor peer relations of resident children in the community and take appropriate
action when necessary to assure the safety of the resident children.
- Provide positive reinforcement and correction for resident children; implement
the program curriculum. Teach children practical, self-help skills for
resident children to allow them to function adequately in home and social
environments.
- Responsible for assuring that maintenance of immediate premises of the
group home are free of safety hazards.
- Promote a positive image of the program in the community through personal
and professional behavior and through participation in public relations
events.
- Participate in meetings with other service providers regarding resident
children to ensure service needs are met; attend client case reviews
and court appointments when Live-In Parent cannot participate.
- Provide all services in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations,
and to the standards outlined in the licensing and accreditation requirements,
and operations manual.
- Other duties as assigned by the Jacob’s House Program Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must possess the abilities to pass the Residential Child Care Worker Certification,
CPR and first aid certifications, and other required residential child
care training.
- Must possess a demonstrated ability to work with children of all ages who
may have behavioral issues. Must be able to effectively manage crisis
situations and use good judgment.
- Must obtain CPR/First Aide training within 1 month of hire.
- Must be dependable, self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must
be willing to work a flexible work schedule as needed.
- Familiarity with the region and its people preferred. Must be able to establish
a rapport with residents and families from varying cultural and sociological
backgrounds.
- Must be able to meet federal and state criminal and child protection background
clearance requirements for this type of position. Must possess or obtain
within 6 months a valid Alaska Driver’s license and have a safe
driving record.
- Computer, keyboarding and office skills required. Must possess basic computer
knowledge and skills in Internet use, Microsoft Word and Excel.
