JOB TITLE: Early Head Start Home Visitor Teacher

POSITION STATUS: Regular, Seasonal, Part-Time

EXEMPT STATUS: Non-exempt

PAY SCALE GRADE: 8-9-10-11

REPORTS TO: Head Start Director

 

Head Start is a federal program to assist children prepare for formal education in the public school system. The Early Head Start Home Based Teacher assists in implementing the goals, objectives and performance standards of the Head Start Program. This position is required to meet educational requirements of the program.

 

BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide and schedule at least one home visit per week per child, lasting at least one and one-half hours, integrating all of the Early Head Start components into each visit that includes education, health and family services.
  2. Work in partnership with parents to enhance their role as their child’s primary educator through regularly scheduled home visits and group socializations activities. Emphasize the home as the primary learning environment.
  3. Plan and conduct bi-monthly group socialization activities.
  4. Maintain a caseload of up to twelve families.
  5. Follow policies and procedures in regards to child abuse and neglect reporting.
  6. Recruit new families and assists in the enrollment process
  7. Identify resources that will help strengthen the family unit. Assist families in accessing resources.
  8. Submit monthly reports and complete the year end Program Information Report.
  9. Complete all required screenings for home-based enrollment.
  10. Attend required meetings and trainings.
  11. Ensure that the home based program is in compliance with the Head Start performance standards.
  12. Other duties as assigned by the Head Start Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Have a current Infant Toddler Home Visitor CDA (Child Development Associate) credential, or submit CDA application within 6 months of hire.
  2. Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  3. Resident of the community given preference.
  4. No prior convictions of child abuse or violence in any form.
  5. Must be willing to work towards an AA or BA degree or degree in Early Childhood Education.
