NOTICE OF JOB VACANCY POSITION DESCRIPTION

DIVISION: Children and Family Services

JOB TITLE: Family Advocate

POSITION STATUS: Regular, Full Time

EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt

PAY SCALE GRADE: 10-11-12

REPORTS TO: Head Start Director

 

BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:

  1. Recruit and enroll eligible children into the Head Start Program; establish and maintain confidential files on assigned enrollees. Monitor and document enrollees’ attendance.
  2. Reserve 10% of enrollment for children with special needs and ensure follow-through and tracking of IEP’s and needed services.
  3. Enter and maintain ChildPlus data on enrollees.
  4. Assist families in assessing their goals, and develop programs and activities to meet them using community resources. Identify strengths/weaknesses of each family; make referrals and follow- up of needed services.
  5. Track and document all family services using ChildPlus and Family Partnership Agreements process. Make home visits in order to involve parents in service delivery.
  6. Report suspected cases of child abuse/neglect.
  7. Assist Health Specialist by collecting, assessing, and tracking information on each child’s health needs including vision, hearing and other screenings, mental health observations and follow up of health needs.
  8. Recruit volunteers for parent involvement and in-kind contributions, and document parent involvement utilizing the ChildPlus software program.
  9. Ensure Family Development Plans are completed with all Head Start Families. Coordinate with teaching teams for social services referrals and follow-ups.
  10. Assist in maintaining and distributing resource directory and collecting survey information for annual community needs assessments.
  11. Assist in organizing orientation for parents, including production of brochures and organizing meetings.
  12. Assist in training parents for their roles and responsibilities, including parent committee and policy council meetings.
  13. Follow Head Start Child Abuse and Neglect Policies and Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality Policies.
  14. Assist with the coordination of Kawerak Head Start Policy Council meetings. Work with Policy Council and staff to establish and coordinate volunteer recognition program.
  15. Other duties as assigned by Head Start Director or designee.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate Degree or CDA preferred. Work experience in social services, health or early childhood preferred.
  2. Computer, keyboarding and office skills required.
  3. Must be dependable, self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision.
  4. Must be able to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  5. Must be able to travel extensively throughout the region and occasionally attend out of town training.
  6. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  7. No prior convictions of child abuse in any form.
