JOB TITLE: Foster Parent Recruiter/Caseworker I

POSITION STATUS: Regular, Full Time

EXEMPT STATUS: Non-exempt

PAY SCALE GRADE: 10-11-12

REPORTS TO: Family Services Program Director

 

The Foster Parent Recruiter/Caseworker I is a combined position whose main responsibilities will focus on foster home recruitment within the Bering Strait region. The Foster Parent Recruiter/Caseworker I must be able to develop creative ways to recruit foster homes. The Foster Parent Recruiter/Caseworker will also assist the Children & Family Services meet program goals as outlined in the Rural Social Service grant.

 

BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the Alternative Care Specialist recruit for foster homes within the Bering Strait region using a variety of methods.
  2. Assist foster care applicants with the licensing application. Submit completed application to the Alternative Care Specialist for review.
  3. Assist the Alternative Care Specialist to recruit and maintain a listing of emergency placement providers; update as needed.
  4. Coordinate support systems for foster parents as needed/requested.
  5. Assist with “relative” searches prior to foster care placements.
  6. Attend meetings, training, and conferences as required by the Family Services Director to keep abreast of alternative care issues.
  7. Assist the Office of Children’s Service Social Worker develop and implement the Child Protective Services case plans while maintaining regular client contact.
  8. Provide ongoing assessment of client needs and referral services to appropriate service provider to meet those needs.
  9. Provide supportive services to both parents and children involved with the OCS and foster parents who have children in their care.
  10. Prepare social case histories, case summaries and case closures.
  11. Complete the OCS TONE training and other training as required by Kawerak Child & Family Services.
  12. Attend foster parent meetings.
  13. May be required to attend court hearings and testify at court proceedings.
  14. Required to travel to remote villages in light commercial aircraft to recruit foster homes, and provide services to program clients.
  15. Other duties as assigned by the Family Services Program Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or G.E.D.
  2. At least one year of work experience in a human service agency required. Education in a human service field may substitute for the work experience on a year for year basis.
  3. Basic computer skills and ability to utilize Windows (Word and Excel) and Internet required.
  4. Knowledge of Bering Strait region preferred.
  5. Must have a valid Alaska Driver’s License.
  6. Must be willing to travel extensively in rural Alaska.
  7. No prior conviction of child abuse, family violence, or other convictions that would affect the performance of the position requirements.
  8. Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
