JOB TITLE: GED Program Tutor

POSITION STATUS: Regular, Part Time, On-call, maximum 16 hrs wk.

PAY SCALE GRADE: 7, 8, 9

EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Community Education Program Director

 

The GED Program Tutor plans, prepares, and delivers GED instruction/tutoring to adults in assisting their preparations for the Official GED Tests. This is a part time “on-call” position as compensation is based on consumer attendance.

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the EET Division with the administration of Education, Employment and Training services to residents of the Bering Strait Region, ensuring that the goals and objectives of the division are achieved.
  2. Responsible for instruction/tutoring of adults pursing preparations for the GED.
  3. Advertise services as required to facilitate recruitment, and orient consumers for services.
  4. Review consumers’ educational needs using Test Adult Basic Education (TABE) 9/10 testing results documented by the ABE/GED Program Specialist and information shared by the consumer.
  5. Deliver instruction/tutoring in GED subject matter, using GED tests or other materials to enhance preparations for testing.
  6. Performs proctor duties of test administration as required and conducts on going assessments of consumers to monitor progress and skills.
  7. Develop strategies to motivate and encourage consumers to maintain attendance and achieve their educational goals.
  8. Work with local organizations to solicit in-kind support for the GED program.
  9. Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma and/or GED diploma. Associate Degree is highly preferred with experience in tutoring youth and adults.
  2. Experience working with economically disadvantaged and ethnically diverse adult student groups, and knowledge of the regional Native culture.
  3. Must possess strong tutoring, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  4. Computer and keyboarding skills required with knowledge of Intranet, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows.
  5. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  6. Must be dependable, self-motivated and able to work under minimum supervision.
