JOB TITLE: Teacher Aide/Janitor

POSITION STATUS: Part time, Seasonal

EXEMPT STATUS: Non-exempt

PAY SCALE GRADE: 5-6-7

REPORTS TO: Program Director

Head Start is a federal program to assist children prepare for formal education in the public school system. The Head Start Teacher Aide/Janitor is a combined position. The position assists in implementing the goals, objectives and performance standards of the Head Start Program. This position is required to meet educational requirements of the program.

 

BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist with implementing the goals, objectives and performance standards of the Head Start Program.
  2. Maintain a professional attitude, be responsible, dependable, in good health and demonstrate a commitment to excellence.
  3. Aid and assist teachers in daily classroom duties. Work cooperatively with non-teaching staff as well, under supervision of the Teacher.
  4. Aid and assist classroom teacher in carrying out such duties as teaching, performing housekeeping chores, preparing for snack or lunch and ensuring that the environment is sanitary and healthy.
  5. Provide supportive assistance to teachers, allowing them time for other duties.
  6. Attend staff meetings, training sessions, meetings with other professionals and meetings with parents as needed.
  7. Keep facilities in compliance with Head Start performance standards and State and local licensing inspection requirements.
  8. Responsible for cleaning and minor maintenance of Head Start building and outside play areas. (Daily vacuuming, bathroom sanitation, snow removal, dusting shelves and equipment, washing windows, spot safety checkup.)
  9. Use team approach with parents and staff to develop individualized activities to meet the children’s needs. Conduct observations, screenings, assessments and family reviews.
  10. Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Must hold a current CDA (Child Development Associate). If applicant does not have a CDA they must submit CDA application within 6 months of hire.
  3. Experience in working with young children.
  4. Resident of the community given preference.
  5. Must pass a criminal background check. No prior convictions of child abuse or violence in any form.
  6. Must be willing to work towards an AA degree in Early Childhood Education.
