JOB TITLE: Teacher
POSITION STATUS: Regular, Seasonal, Part-Time
EXEMPT STATUS: Non-exempt
PAY SCALE GRADE: 8-9-10-11
REPORTS TO: Head Start Director
Head Start is a federal program to assist children prepare for formal education
in the public school system. The Head Start Teacher assists in implementing
the goals, objectives and performance standards of the Head Start Program.
This position is required to meet educational requirements of the program.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with implementing the goals, objectives and performance standards
of the Head Start Program.
- Use team approach with parents and staff to develop individualized activities
to meet the children’s needs. Conduct observations, screenings,
assessments and family reviews.
- Proactive planning expected. Prepare developmentally appropriate classroom
materials and lesson plans that include Native culture and heritage;
create and update learning centers as needed to promote development of children.
Ensure that children are supervised at all times.
- Maintain on-going contact with families, integrate educational goals that
are developmentally appropriate into the classroom to promote the health,
nutrition, and the education of children in the program. Implement concepts
of early childhood education.
- Ensure that bus evacuation plans, fire and sanitary inspections are updated
annually. Maintain monthly classroom and bus evacuation drills.
- In cooperation with other teachers, observe and record children’s
growth in various areas. Prepare snack/lunch, and supervise outdoor play.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents on the psychological well-being
of their children, at the center and on home visits.
- Maintain information flow and ideas with speech and physical therapists,
nurses, social workers and other relevant professionals to promote quality
services to children.
- Use appropriate guidance techniques consistent with early childhood education
practices.
- Participate in staff, parent meetings and professional training sessions.
- Maintain updated child confidential files and parent signatures.
- Attend and maintain records of IEP meetings and coordinate on-going services
that the program can provide.
- Maintain correspondence with all parents through monthly memo and activity
calendars.
- Complete and submit all reports to central office according to timelines.
- Other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Head Start Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- AA degree in Education or hold a current CDA (Child Development Associate)
credential.
- Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
- Resident of the community given preference.
- No prior convictions of child abuse or violence in any form.
- Must be willing to work towards an AA degree or degree in Early Childhood
Education.
