JOB TITLE: School Age Teacher I
POSITION STATUS: Part Time-during the school year with some full time days
(1:30 to 5:50)
Full Time-during summer months
EXEMPT STATUS: Non-exempt
PAY SCALE GRADE: 5-6-7
REPORTS TO: Child Care Program Director
BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure that children assigned to care are supervised at all times. Treat children with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
- Communicate daily with family members regarding their child’s daily needs and circumstances. Treat child and family information confidentially.
- Assist with planning and implementing a daily program of child care activities that meet the developmental needs of individual children; with concern for their interests, challenges, special talents and individual personality and learning styles.
- Support the behavior of children with positive guidance and set clear and consistent limits appropriate to their stage of development.
- Assist in the planning and preparing of the childcare environment; setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
- Assist in maintaining the ordered arrangement and cleanliness of the childcare room. Perform general housekeeping tasks.
- Follow center procedures for health and safety of children in care, including but not limited to procedures for toileting; procedures for meals and snack times; procedures for responding to emergencies; procedures related to suspected child abuse and neglect; and procedures for handling children who are ill.
- Use appropriate guidance and conflict resolution techniques consistent with developmental needs of each child.
- Conduct daily checks of the indoor and outdoor environment to provide for the health and safety of children in care and supervise indoor and outdoor play.
- Assist in preparing the daily meals and snacks for the children in care.
- Participate in staff meetings and meetings with other professionals or parents as required.
- Attend recommended training programs and conferences, including a minimum of 20 hours of training or coursework annually.
- Maintain a current CPR and First Aid License.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Child Care Director or Associate Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Be responsible, friendly, energetic and reliable.
- Experience working with children and families preferred.
- No prior history of child abuse, family violence, or other convictions that would affect the performance of position requirements.
