DIVISION: Community Services Division

JOB TITLE: Village Transportation Coordinator

LOCATION: Diomede

Teller, Wales, White Mountain

POSITION STATUS: Part-time/On Call

EXEMPT STATUS: Non-exempt

PAY SCALE RANGE 9-10-11

REPORTS TO: Transportation Program Director

 

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the Village Transportation Planner and Engineer with the administration of Village Transportation services to IRA/Traditional Tribal Council.
  2. Assist with the collection of transportation data.
  3. Maintain a working relationship with appropriate entities, (such as the IRA, City, Corporations, and AK Department of Transportation and Public Facilities) that have a role in the transportation planning, and construction process.
  4. Document existing and future transportation needs utilizing maps and other available data gathering methods.
  5. Conduct interviews with community members regarding past, present, and future transportation needs and special concerns such as safety, archaeological and environmental issues.
  6. Organize, facilitate and record public meetings on transportation related issues.
  7. Work closely with the IRA / Traditional Council.
  8. Assist program staff in developing and drafting the Village Transportation Plan.
  9. Work in cooperation with other Kawerak staff on transportation projects.
  10. Assist the Village Transportation Planner identify potential funding sources and gather supporting documents to complete grant applications.
  11. Provide written and verbal updates and reports to the Tribal Council, Village Transportation Planner, Engineer, and Program Director.
  12. Attend trainings, meetings or workshops as necessary.
  13. Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Must possess good research, written, listening, presentation, and oral skills.
  3. Computer, keyboarding and office skills required. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Windows, Excel and Internet skills required.
  4. Strong organizational skills required. Must be dependable, self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision.
  5. Must be willing to learn new technology and apply to daily work.
  6. Must take and receive a passing score on Kawerak’s Math Placement Test.
  7. Must be able to work and communicate effectively in a multi-cultural setting and develop working relationships with various governments, corporations, and funding agencies.
  8. Must be able to interview and collect information from the members of the community.
  9. Ability to make oral presentations and facilitate meetings.
  10. Must be willing to travel throughout the region and as needed.
