Beringia Museum of Culture & Science Project

TAKING THE MEASURE OF YOUR VILLAGE

By unanimous vote the Kawerak Board of Directors agreed Kawerak staff should continue planning a Museum/Cultural Center Project to be constructed in Nome, providing cultural programming support to the Bering Straits villages. This facility would act as the cultural hub of the region, with spokes, like on a wheel, radiating to each village, providing cultural enrichment programs and possible economic development through village based eco-tourism. This survey is intended to:
  1. identify the cultural image of each village , and
  2. obtain each community’s needs, wants and desires for the planned Beringia Museum Project in regards to programming and facility design.
Please be as descriptive as possible when answering the questions. You are welcome, and encouraged, to hold a public meeting in your village to determine the answers to these questions with the leadership and guidance of your IRA’s Cultural Advisor. Please feel free to make copies of this document and distribute them among your village. You may write on this form or compile answers by typing directly on the form. Your contribution and your thoughts are invaluable to the development of this Project; the consultants working on the Project need your input to develop solid, comprehensive planning documents. The deadline for the return of this survey is February 1, 2007. Your survey results will be compiled and used in the Business plan, Feasibility Study and Concept Drawings for the facility.

Please return the printable survey to Jessy Bowman at Box 948, Nome, Alaska 99762, or fax to 907-443-4452, or complete the online survey. Please call Interim Beringia Museum Project Coordinator, Jessy Bowman @ 443.4340 if you have questions, suggestions or wish more information on the Project. Thank you for your time, consideration and assistance!
