Jacob’s House provides children who are victims of child abuse and neglect with a safe, loving, alternative placement in the Bering Strait Region when traditional foster home placement is unavailable or not an option. The main goal of Jacob’s House is to reduce the number of children in custody being sent out of region and to improve the lives of these children though treatment, services and advocacy. Jacob’s House provides a home-like atmosphere, based upon the culture of the children in the region. A live in house parent is the main caregiver for children to enhance the home like atmosphere of the program as well as to minimize the number of different adults that children need to adjust to during the day. Twenty-four hour house awake staff provides supervision.
