What is ARDOR?

BERING STRAIT ARDOR MISSION

“To improve the quality of life in the Bering Strait Region through employment and economic opportunities.”

In 1989 the State Legislature created the Alaska Economic Assistance Program to encourage formation of Alaska Regional Development Organization (ARDORs) that address economic concerns on a regional and local basis throughout the State. Once designated, the ARDOR is required to prepare economic profiles of the region and its communities and a regional development strategy. Kawerak, Inc. received the Bering Strait ARDOR designation in January 1997 and consists of a 16-member board, which represents various sectors of the economic community.

DUTIES OF THE ARDOR
  1. Gather and disseminate information about regional economic issues and opportunities.
  2. Act as a liaison for local government, business and economic interests with the state and federal government.
  3. 3. Coordinate private and public efforts to promote, develop and explore economic opportunities that will benefit the people of the Bering Strait Region.
  4. Actively encourage economic self-sufficiency within the region.
