To partner with parents and organizations to help provide quality care for children, Who are the future of us all!
Child Care Services (CCS) This program provides financial assistance for child care costs to low-income working parents or parents attending full time training or educational programs. CCS also helps individuals who wish to provide child care in their homes through a process that covers everything from making sure the homes are safe for children to providing training opportunities for the providers. CCS also provides funding assistance to tribal organizations to start, improve or expand upon existing quality after school activity programs with After School Activity "ASA" Funds. Uiviilat (we-veal-lat) Play and Learn Center (UPLC) located in Nome is also managed by this program. UPLC is a state licensed child development (day care) center operated by Kawerak. UPLC's student population is made up of 36 month old children to children in third grade. UPLC is open to all families living in Nome. Home Based Provider Services Kawerak Child Care Services was established to provide assistance with the rising costs of child care. CCS partners with parents by not only helping with this, but also by assisting them in finding quality child care for their children. For child care assistance, there is an application process we ask each family to complete. Once this process is complete the family is notified as whether or not they qualify for assistance. Whether or not a family is eligible for assistance, the families are free to choose a provider to care for their children. If parents do not have a specific provider in mind, CCS has a list of Kawerak approved and state licensed child care providers they may contact for space availability. If parents have a specific person in mind and they are not on CCS's approved provider list or licensed by the state, the provider may be approved. There is an application process to become a Kawerak Child Care Services approved provider. This process is designed to ensure that the home and the person applying meet health and safety requirements. After School Activity "ASA" Funds Our partnership with Tribal organizations is through the After School Activity (ASA) Funds. With these funds tribal organizations can provide quality activities for children whose parents work or are attending training or educational class during the hours after children are released from school. Each organization may contact CCS for an application packet and guidelines for the funds. When the funds are awarded there are reports to be turned to CCS to help with the evaluation of their program. Uiviilat Play and Learn Center Uiviilat Play and Learn Center opened in May of 2004.
