Administrative Assistant Training Program – NEW COHORT
Have you been interested in an Administrative Assistant position but hesitated to apply because you weren’t sure about the job or your experience? We have a solution!
Kawerak’s Short Term Regional Training Program
Kawerak sponsors and coordinates short-term regional trainings to enhance occupational skills, achieve re-certification or attain certification. Trainings are coordinated with each community in the Bering Strait/Norton Sound Region, partnering organizations, and regional employers. Trainings are designed to prepare for local employment opportunities as funding permits. Participant eligibility may vary for each training program. Participants can also find trainings outside of the region and apply for financial assistance to support their attendance in these trainings.
Examples of short-term regional training programs are:
Construction Safety, Boiler & Appliance Repair, Carpentry, Certified Nurse Assistant, Residential Electricity & Plumbing, Heavy Equipment Operation, Driver’s License, Flagging, Hazwoper Certification, Welding, Energy Efficiency, Quickbooks, Grant Writing, Specialty Craft Making, Occupational Endorsement, etc.
Northwest Campus Trainings and Classes
Kawerak Short Term Regional Training can help fund your training for opportunities that lead to employment! We partner with UAF’s Northwest Campus often to identify courses that are applicable and helpful for the region. When interested in these courses, you apply both through NWC (application at http://www.nwc.uaf.edu/images/pdf/registration%20form.pdf) AND Kawerak (application https://kawerak.org/download/short-term-regional-training-application/)
How the Training Calendar Gets Decided
Kawerak’s Short-term Regional Training Program works with each community to identify upcoming local employment opportunities and needed occupational skill development required to maintain tribal member employment. Funding sources, trainers and other resources are prioritized to the best advantage of the region.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be Tribal Members of one of Kawerak’s member communities and reside in the region. Members from Nome Eskimo Community must apply through their IRA to provide funding. Trainees must be willing to attend training daily for the entire length of the training period. Kawerak can provide supportive services for Tribal Members if requested before the training begins, as funding allows. Examples of supportive services are travel to the training site, lodging, course fees, required clothing, etc.
Application Process
- Complete the Training Program Application
- Submit Tribal Enrollment Verification (all applicants must be tribally Enrolled within the Bering Straits Region)
- Complete an Intake Form and Individual Education or Employment Plan
Post-Training
- Training participants are required to complete a follow-up questionnaire 90 days after training completion
